Professional Teeth Whitening in La Mirada
Tooth whitening (or bleaching) is a simple, cosmetic treatment
used to change the color of natural tooth enamel and is an ideal way to improve the beauty of your smile. Our dental office provides teeth whitening for La Mirada and nearby communities.
Chairside Teeth Whitening
This smile enhancing procedure can lighten teeth several shades in about one hour. The dentist applies the whitening agent onto each tooth and allows it to set for the appropriate amount of time. This process is repeated up to four times to achieve the level of brightness you desire. If you choose chairside or in-office teeth whitening, you have the option of receiving custom trays made for our take-home method which works well to maintain your bright new smile.
Professional Strength Take-Home Whitening
Another popular method is using an at-home teeth whitening system that will whiten teeth dramatically in about two weeks. This type of tooth whitening usually requires two visits. At the first appointment, impressions (molds) will be made of your teeth to fabricate custom, clear plastic, trays.
At your second appointment, you will try on the trays for proper fit, and adjustments will be made if necessary. The trays are worn with special whitening solution either twice a day for 30 minutes or overnight for a couple of weeks depending on the degree of staining and desired level of whitening. Tooth whitening is not permanent. A touch-up maybe needed every several years, and more often if you smoke, drink coffee, tea, or wine.
What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
• Consuming coffee, tea, wine, and grape juice.
• Tobacco Use
• Normal wear of outer tooth layer.
• Insufficient oral hygiene and dental cleanings.
• Excessive fluoride exposure during tooth development.
• Medications (tetracycline, etc.).
Does Professional Teeth Whitening Really Work?
Professional Teeth Whitening is extremely effective in lightening teeth that have become stained over the years due to the consumption of dark beverages and tobacco products. It also works well when oral hygiene has been neglected. In cases of intrinsic or permanent stains due to illness, genetics, or certain medications, porcelain veneers may be necessary to conceal this kind of discoloration.
